Case Study: EPIK Communications
Founded in the late 1990's, EPIK Communications built long-haul and local access telecommunications fiber throughout the Southeast, primarily in Georgia and Florida. Florida East Coast Industries (FECI), a publicly-traded company, invested over $200 million in plant, property and equipment between 1998 and 2002. By 2002, EPIK was losing money due to massive overcapacity of long-haul fiber and FECI decided to shed this non-core business.
Why DCI?
FECI wanted to exit its investment quietly and quickly while avoiding bankruptcy for EPIK. DCI has depth of experience in the acquisition and sale of telecommunications infrastructure assets and specializes in completing all transactions discretely and expeditiously.
The Result
A team from DCI (under predecessor name VAG) completed due diligence on an accelerated basis and in less than 2 weeks the team purchased 100% of the company. After assuming operational control, the DCI team directed the sale of select assets and successful restructuring of EPIK, which eventually led to the merger of EPIK with Progress Telecom.
